About Sprout Assembly

Everyday classroom jobs, done quickly, without handing student names to anyone.

What it is

Sprout Assembly has five free tools for teachers, tutors and students: a seating chart maker, a name picker wheel, a classroom noise meter, a weighted grade calculator and a rubric maker. They are built for the projector, a laptop on the desk or a phone in the corridor, and they need no account.

How it works

Every tool runs entirely in your browser. Class lists, seating plans, grades and rubrics are saved in your browser's local storage on the device you are using, so they are there next time, and they are never sent to a server. The noise meter listens through your microphone only while it is switched on and turns the sound into a loudness number on the device; nothing is recorded. Once a page has loaded it keeps working offline.

Who is behind it

Sprout Assembly is an independent, free site. There are no ads and nothing to buy. The rubric templates and help text were written for this site.

Good to know

Because data lives in one browser, a plan made on your laptop will not appear on the classroom computer. Use Print, CSV or copy to move it, and clear saved data from shared computers when you are done.
